MBA (Master of Business Administration) provides a graduate education in foundational business practices, such as accounting, finance, marketing and management. It is often a beneficial degree choice for working professionals who need to obtain additional education to reach their career goals and climb the corporate ladders of business administration. The MBA program is designed to further develop the student’s career in management. It is structured into two stages and can be completed in two years. The first stage consists of eight core modules:
1. Study Skills for Postgraduate Learning
Provides the essential skills and knowledge required for studying at postgraduate level. The module is designed to support study in the program’s other modules and to develop transferred skills useful for a manager.
2. International Marketing Strategy
Coverage of a wide range of contemporary issues in strategic marketing with a particular focus on international cultural dimension.
3. Management Control and Accountability for Financial Resources
Considers the responsibility of managers for the financial resources under their control and introduces control and management techniques.
4. Managing People in Organisations
Examines some of the contemporary themes associated with managing people. A thematic approach to the subject develops an awareness of the concepts and theory that underpin organizational behavior and human resource management.
5. Strategic Operations Management
Develops an understanding and the ability to critically appraise decision making relating to operations management in both the manufacturing and services sectors.
6. Information and Knowledge Management
Considers the effective use of information and knowledge by managers in organisations and technology is used to manage, capture and derive information and knowledge.
7. Strategic Management
Focuses upon strategic analysis by utilizing a set of analytical techniques for understanding better and influencing a company position in actual and potential marketplace.
8. Research Methods
Develops the knowledge and skills needed by both senior management and for further academic research including critical and creative thinking, complex problem solving, decision-making and research skills.
Students who have successfully completed the eight core modules in the First Stage can progress to the Second Stage by applying for the MBA Top-up course at many UK Universities such as Worcester, Northampton and Plymouth.
